Be part of a working tree farm and enjoy horses and nature

"Enjoying a good day's work in nature and good company"

This is the Deal

My tree nursery is located 120km west of Edmonton and only a 3 hour drive away from famous Jasper National Park in the Rocky Mountains.
We need help with stapling, tying and crimping the trees we dug, planting seedlings, caring for the trees in our nursery and you might help with tree planting and landscaping jobs all over Alberta. In spring we sometimes go as far as BC to dig trees. Working here also includes renovating and building projects. There are a beautifully landscaped yard and rock gardens to look after, some fruit picking in summer and there is much weeding to do. As we are all living together we share the household work. The tree business is seasonal - we start in spring when the ground thawed out and work into the month of November.
In winter and whenever there is time for it in summer we train our foals and brake young horses to ride or to pull a wagon.
You can stay with us in a big rustic log house where we have 4 bedrooms with queen size beds or bunk beds and 2 bathrooms for our workers and guests. There is also a separate western style bunk house with bunk beds in 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Our place is surrounded by beautiful nature where you can go horseback riding, jogging, play ball games, use the trampolin and check out our swimming and fishing pond. Inside there is a big fireplace, a billard table, pinball, game computers, darts, a jukebox, laundry facilities, a beautiful rustic saloon, your own tvs in your bedrooms, a big movie collection, a satellite tv for all helpers in the common room and wireless internet and a guest computer for your emails. We like to eat well and serve also vegetarian food. There is no need to bring anything special for your stay here, we can provide you with work clothes and riding outfits.
We have 3 dogs and 2 cats living with us, all of them very friendly. Horse lovers will be in paradise being surrounded by around 40 horses in all age groups.
This is a great place to practise your English and make friends with other workers from all over the world as well as with our frequent Canadian visitors.
You are always welcome to share our activities after work, like sitting outside at the fire, playing Poker and other games, watching movies, go for horse rides or come with us to Edmonton when we have to make a trip there.
Many of our foreign workers in the last years learned basic western riding skills on this farm. We try to give beginners a chance to ride our calmest horses once a week. If you are already a good rider there will always be a horse for you to ride after work.
We have very much to offer to you. In exchange we expect you to put in an average of 6 hours a day, 6 days a week. Working here can be hard at times but then it also is fun with plenty of different experiences and nice people to work with.
Kids and your travel mates are welcome to stay with us. We expect our helpers to try their best to speak English while here but we can help out with German-English translations.
Please feel free to contact us and ask any questions.
Helpers with mechanical or welding skills needed at any time - work out special terms of your stay with us.
